Composting Dome

An interactive sculpture built during an ongoing exhibition in dialogue with the audience, who were invited to offer thoughts and suggestions on its design. Joachim Granit from Färgfabriken invited Jens Evaldsson to collaborate on a work under the theme "Composting Knowledge".

The concept of the sculpture draws on ideas such as the geodesic dome (a symbol of the green wave in 1970s USA, self-sufficiency, moon bases and future visions, and more), network building, dialogue, the sharing of knowledge with decomposition and nourishment for new knowledge, ecology, climate impact and biotopes. The Composting Knowledge network is an ongoing experimental network for knowledge production started ahead of Documenta 15 on the initiative of Ruangrupa.

"Composting is an exercise in reunion, a ritual for gathering the unwanted and the decaying — a participation and an encounter between different materials in a hopeful container where you can grow useful ingredients that nourish a shared terrain, which lives and thrives in the encounters, friendships and shared lessons born in the space the network creates."
