Reflektioner & transformationer
The installation consists of a video and tables with cloths, sculptures and playing cards that relate to the video. The work has interactive elements in which the audience is invited to watch the film and then use the sculptures and cards while talking with one another at the tables, or reflecting on their own.
Travel from a future perspective has been a starting point for the project. It is a central part of human everyday life, and offers an entry point for exploring existential questions about future possibilities and choices, for both individuals and society.
Starting from scientific texts and concepts, a creative collision is created between science and art. With scientific texts as the basis, it becomes necessary to grind down and abstract overly concrete conclusions, so that the viewer can be freer in interpreting the work. The original scientific texts and figures lie embedded, but not fully visible. This has been achieved with the help of a new creative working method.
Mattias Höjer is a professor of environmental and futures studies at KTH. He has worked above all on questions of transport, the built environment and digitalisation, almost always connected to energy and climate issues. In recent years he has engaged with the relationship between science and art, and begun an exploration of how artworks can be inspired by scientific works and give the viewer their own opportunity to reflect on the questions raised.
The work was funded by the research programme Mistra SAMS.
