The Dialogue Tree

The tree's form is taken from the "Tree of Life", drawn in 1837 by Charles Darwin as a symbol of the kinship of all living things. It can also be seen as the tree of knowledge, a river system of information, and how the children's choices and encounters shape their path out into life.

The images on the tree's branches were created by the artist in dialogue with pupils and teachers at Finninge School. They contain concepts such as the school's subjects, nature/the climate question, food, emotions, friendship and knowledge. The work aims to act as a catalyst for conversation, in the hope that it can be used in education as a pedagogical tool.

This poem sums up the work: "The evolution of knowledge branches out through encounters, and everything has a common root. The trunk, the branches and the twigs help the leaves find the light."
